following their recent track on reduxs pick & mix vol. 1, the disco legend that is pete herbert and melbournes golden fleece further cement their collaboration with this full ep on space walker records. >ivory waves< is a 90s influenced cut of uplifting piano-driven balearic house, complete with lush cosmic flourishes, whilst >the bells of hackney< is a more low-slung, but no less powerful production. initially combining a snaking live bassline and spaced-out arpeggios, the track builds to a crescendo as heavily flanged piano and tights guitar licks come into play. the b-side meanwhile serves up two remixes of >ivory waves<, lithuanias downtown party network recompose it as an even more-good time anthem (if such a thing is possible) with their trademark melodic charm, while slovenias sare havlicek takes the track into deeper territory bringing the thick bassline teasing the melody with dubbed out stabs, slowly bringing the huge piano line in before dropping it with force, taking the anthem potential of the original and running with it.

thomas hesslers ep is the first player through crepuscular shafts & sonic subways.. beware the trail. first track - lost - cements you into a vacuum of suffocating synths that precede a poundin kick.. you are propelled into a tunnel. the bridge of the track is a course in restraint, giving way to menacing drive & looping side sticks.. siren like washes takes hold, swirling & disorientating the listener. on the flip, - 12 channel madness - best conveys the tone and atmosphere of the release. the murky darkness & pace feels inhuman to the core, but not without infectious rhythm breakdowns with flavors of old & nu skool shuffle timbres. these tracks are also - tools - that do not sacrifice on complexity. the haunting synth washes carry us through but offer no comfort. insanity & intensity reaches catharsis but never overpowers the overall mix. - berlin movement - is the final track on the ep that affirms you are still inside the tunnel. the incisive hook lines impel you to find your way out. the kick is more subdued forcing you to go with the melody until the break & bridge lapses back & the restraint builds to hypnotic frenzy. a dry, howling wind prevails.. filtered and distorted. thomas hessler succeeds in taking us through his tunnel of contradictions: alluring, menacing, emotional yet coldly detached. listen up: you might not escape !

>call me< is a welcome dose of precisely what we all need right now: a brilliant ray of sunny electro disco to warm up our winter dancefloors. dj nibc, the berlin-based, gothenburg-born dj, producer and trunkfunk records label owner has joined forces with fellow swedish house cat patrick l for a collaborative effort that offers a fresh, playful and breezy take on deep disco grooves. the dj nibc mix rides a languid summer afternoon tempo, accompanied by shimmering light beams and sweet synth chords, rising to a peak of uplifting strings and soulful vocals that weave around the tracks core retro melody. the patrick l mix gives the full polyphonic treatment, shifting the filtered strings to the intro, intensifying the bass, and using subtle punchy cut-ups in contrast with patricks crystal-clear vocal treatment. fellow swede tiger stripes completes the trio of countrymen, with a tiger stripes remix that moulds the track into an urgent dancefloor cut, emphasising an irresistible bass melody, a thudding kick drum, and classic house stabs of synths and voice. londons newest simmering hot creations signee funnels even more sunshine into his rework, as the crea albas lost soul remix splays out the the tracks high hats and fills all available spaces with arcs of retro synths and cosmic reverb.

nanotek joins the subdiv fam with a track that has all the twists and turns of a lynch film laced with the tempermental edge of mark chopper read on a comedown. venus is truly subviolenz.on the flip and only because there always has to be two sides of a story and the story being machinecode and nanotek is devestating. aptly named nanomachine this reduced tempo beast really grinds your soul out of ya bones back in to the mechanical furnace. supported by every rotten filthy floor destroying subhead known to man and machine. the future is violenz!
hot release alert by our boy paul du lac who is a long time close friend of the frustrated family, colleague at the clone office and an old dj buddy of frustrated funk label boss klen (when they played the nighttown basement in the early 90s). so it s a bit of a special thing for us having him aboard. this ep shows pauls signature minimalistic approach on chicago style house. typical jacking 707s and 808s combined with minimal synth pulses. qom and access are pure jackin bliss for the floor while moodswings goes deeper with layers of warm pads and spaced out stings. the title track comes with a stripped beats version from tevo howard, for those who like to mix things up.. highly recommended!!

although relish compilation 3 marks the third compiled label round up for headmans relish recordings, it is a compilation only in form, it has been constructed out of new tracks very much in the guise of an album. in label terms it highlights the new artists that have been unearthed this year – jr seaton, andreas esu, hannalelauri, daniel avery, international, montevideo – and presents them alongside new tracks from headman. ep 1 starts on side a with hannulelauris europa, a strict reverence to europes dance legacy. then it slips on into a quick thrust 808 funk of headmans latest be loved. be loved features the vocals of belfast singer rosie blair from the band boy of girl. we then glide through the straight chicago cut of andreas esus dance in space on side b and popping nrg/italo from chmmrs collaboration with glaswegians, a strict reverence to europes dance legacy.
